In the Casamarta family of Guitera, I ask for the “son” or the “brother” or simply Paul!
It must be said that in the Casamartas, the agricultural fibre transcends generations and siblings. Thus, Paul has become the family shepherd and now works alongside his father’s pig farm and his brother’s inn-farm on the family farm. “I always wanted to be a shepherd, but I first started and still continue to do butchering with my father in the village cooperative,” explains the young shepherd. But the desire to drive his goats was too strong. Paul has thus resolutely gone through the various stages of setting up a farm and is now at the head of a herd of a hundred head, a brand new sheepfold and a brand new cheese dairy!
“When I decided to set up, I wanted to have a comfortable working tool for my goats and one that would be efficient for making my cheeses and receiving customers in good conditions,” says the shepherd. Today, Paul’s cheeses naturally find their place on the table of his brother’s nearby farmhouse inn, but also in the good restaurants of the region. Seeing him walking the green hillsides overlooking the Taravu valley with his goats, you can tell that Paul Casamarta has definitely found his place and his vocation.
