In a very nice territory with middle and high mountains, near the beautiful forest of Incudone, Zicavo is a village of character, edge on a slope. You can find old houses built on granite, with porches with sculpted keys. Before, very superstitious inhabitants of Zicavo were afraid of spirits and other ghosts who could haunt this place, once the night fell. The villagers protected themselves from these creatures by keeping a serpette near their door.
The parish Church of Assumption, with a neo-classic style, has a canvas from the XVIIth century showing the mystic wedding of St Catherine. About 8 km from the village, the chapel San Pietro, from the XVIth century, is famous for being miraculous. Its legend was told by three brothers of Zicavo, whereas a vendetta opposed them to a family of Sartene. One night, when they hid in the forest, St Pierre appeared and warned them that the enemies came. They hid and were not found and came home after a while. St Pierre appeared again and ordered them to build a chapel, thanks for what they have done. Till 19 th century, the chapel was a place for pilgrimage, very famous in the region.
From Zicavo, you can access the various trails leading to the Coscione Plateau and, further on, to Mount Incudine.
